Why Cold Outreach Fails
The first message isn't there to explain; it's there to get a reply.
Most cold outreach fails before it's even read.
Not because the offer is bad.
Because the message asks for too much attention.
I get 10 to 15 cold LinkedIn messages every week.
Three paragraphs.
A company introduction.
A sales pitch.
A calendar link.
The sender spent twenty minutes writing it.
I spent two seconds deciding it wasn't worth reading.
The sender is thinking about their message.
The recipient is thinking about their day.
One rule has guided my outreach for years.
If I wouldn't say it on a phone call, I don't write it.
Nobody starts a conversation with,
"I came across your profile and wanted to introduce..."
So I send messages like,
"Are you hiring for sales roles?"
It's direct.
Relevant.
Easy to answer.
The first message isn't there to explain.
It's there to make replying easier than ignoring.
